African Parliamentary Poverty-Reduction Network

The Africa Poverty Reduction Office

The African Parliamentary Poverty Reduction Network is based in Accra, Ghana, where its Coordinator, Rasheed Draman, shares an office with the field staff of the bilateral Ghana Parliamentary Committee Support Project.

Meant to serve as both a field office and a resource centre, the Africa Poverty Reduction Office was officially opened in April, 2004. Its strategic location in the heart of West Africa will allow the Network to extend its reach to African parliaments in the region and across the continent.

Located close to the Parliament of Ghana, the APRO will serve at times as a training facility, as a drop-in resource centre for MPs as well as a contact point for activity of the Poverty Reduction Network on the continent.

The APRO is the first African base for the Africa-Canada Parliamentary Strengthening Program. Another field office, planned to open in Dakar in late 2004, will house the Gender Equality Network of the program as well as serve as a contact point for partner parliaments in Francophone Africa.

Please feel free to contact the APRO directly, or simply drop in when in Accra!
